Street festivals in Austria

14 festivals in the directory, running from May to September. 14 of them run an open call.

Austria punches far above its size. Linz's Pflasterspektakel is one of the best-paid street festivals anywhere — hotel, a per-diem, travel costs and the hat kept in full — and takes around a hundred acts from over a thousand applications, with a window that opens in mid-November and shuts in mid-January. Carinthia alone holds three bookable dates within a fortnight, which makes it the easiest region in Europe to route.

Applying in Austria

14 of the 14 festivals listed here accept applications directly — 4 through an online form and 10 by writing to the organisers. The rest build their programmes by invitation or through curators, which means the way in is to be seen at the festivals that do run calls.

Write in the local language wherever you can. It is a small circuit and a message in the organiser's own language reads as respect, not effort.
