Street festivals in Poland
5 festivals in the directory, running from July to August. 4 of them run an open call.
Poland has grown into one of Europe's strongest circus and street arts countries in twenty years, largely on public funding. Lublin's Carnaval Sztukmistrzów — the name means conjurors — runs an open call for buskers with a cash prize, and Kraków's ULICA has been going since 1987. Applications are handled in English without difficulty.
Applying in Poland
4 of the 5 festivals listed here accept applications directly — 1 through an online form and 3 by writing to the organisers. The rest build their programmes by invitation or through curators, which means the way in is to be seen at the festivals that do run calls.
Write in the local language wherever you can. It is a small circuit and a message in the organiser's own language reads as respect, not effort.
