Street festivals in Spain

12 festivals in the directory, running from May to October. 10 of them run an open call.

Spain's centre of gravity is the professional fair rather than the festival: FiraTàrrega in Catalonia and Umore Azoka in the Basque Country are marketplaces where programmers from across Europe come to buy. Getting into one of those does more for a season than three ordinary bookings. The rest of the circuit is municipal and clusters in May and September, away from the summer heat.

10 of the 12 festivals listed here accept applications directly — 5 through an online form and 5 by writing to the organisers. The rest build their programmes by invitation or through curators, which means the way in is to be seen at the festivals that do run calls.

Write in the local language wherever you can. It is a small circuit and a message in the organiser's own language reads as respect, not effort.
